Williams was one of the great newspaper cartoonists and commentators on the everyday life of his times.

Mention of this author can be found in Harvey's Children of the Yellow Kid (p 39) with the following comments: "Williams folksy human interest panel cartoon (which appeared as a comic strip on Sundays) ruminated on the trials and tribulations, triumphs and tragedies, of everyday life in the machine shops, on the open range, and at home (...)" "human" sums it up: each cartoon needs to be read carefully so as to be fully appreciated, each being a goldmine of soft humor. More than 70 years later, most of than do not feel one bit outdated, most especially the "why mothers get gray" series. Highly recommended
